Einladung zu einem italienischen Nachmittag im Labor
mit live stream zur Piazza San Marco in Venedig.
Zur Eröffnung der Kunst Biennale in Venedig realisiert Michael Staab seine performative Intervention Concertino Unisono. Kuratiert und produziert von der Pariser Kunststiftung Lab‘Bel.
Dieses Projekt wird live im Internet und an ausgewählte Kunstorte übertragen.
Für Michael Staab, von 2007 bis 2012 ein wichtiges Mitglied des Labor Teams, kam für Köln nur der Ebertplatz, zur Spiegelung seiner Performance von der Piazza San Marco, in Frage.
Es wird auch ein direktes Gespräch per Video Konferenz mit Michael Staab geben.

Was geschehen sein wird:
Der Besuch des Markusplatzes in Venedig, „der schönste Salon Europas“, wie ihn der französische Schriftsteller Alfred de Musset nannte, ist einer der Höhepunkte jeder Venedigreise.
In den Arkaden des Markusplatzes sind drei berühmte Kaffeehäuser beheimatet. Das Caffe Florian, gegründet 1720, gegenüber das Grand Caffe Quadri von 1775 und daneben das Caffe Lavena von 1750. Jedes dieser Kaffehäuser unterhält traditionell ein kleines Orchester, welches für die Gäste auf der Terrasse, der Piazza San Marco, Musikstücke aus allen Stilrichtungen und Epochen spielt. Da die Akkustik auf dem Platz trotz seiner enormen Größe sehr gut ist, spielen die Orchester stets abwechselnd, um akkustische Überschneidungen zu vermeiden.
Pünktlich um 17:00 läuten die großen Kirchenglocken des Campanile der Basilika San Marco über die Piazza hinweg den Abend ein. Ein Mann im Frack erscheint in der Mitte des Platzes und beginnt zu dirigieren. Die Orchester reagieren überraschenderweise tatsächlich auf ihn und beginnen nun gleichzeitig zu spielen. Aus einem musikalischen Chaos heraus entwickelt sich bald ein harmonisches Zusammenspiel und über den Platz hinweg erklingt der „Donauwalzer“ von Johann Strauss.
Die Musik der drei Orchester vermischt sich mit dem Stimmengewirr der Touristen, dem Gurren der Tauben und den Geräuschen der Lagune zu einem Concertino Unisono, welches man am Besten in Mitten des Geschehens erlebt, immer in Bewegung, wie der besungene Fluss oder aber sich im Takt des Walzers wiegend. Nach ein paar Minuten ist der zauberhafte Moment der Gemeinsamkeit vorbei und er bleibt in der Erinnerung als ein besonderes Erlebniss an einem der wunderbarsten Plätze Europas.
An einem anderen wunderbaren Platz in Europa, dem Ebertplatz in Köln, treffen sich an diesem Sonntag Nachmittag Freunde und Kunstinteressierte zu einem Glas Campari oder einem venezianischen Bellini Cocktail. Man spricht vielleicht über die gerade eröffnete Kunstbiennale Venedig, über Kunst im öffentlichen Raum, über Happening, Fluxus und Performances. Um 16:45 wird dann über eine Satellitenverbindung ein mediales Fenster nach Venedig geöffnet.
Ein Kameramann in der Mitte des Markusplatzes fängt die Szenerie ein und in Paris, Köln und in Brasilien kann man nun erleben wie durch die performative Aktion eines Einzelnen sich alle Geräusche auf San Marco, die Musik der Orchester, das Stimmengewirr der Touristen zu einem contemporären Concertino Unisono vermischen. Nach dem großen Finale können sich die internationalen Freunde per Videokonferenz mit den Besuchern der Performance auf der Piazza San Marco und dem Künstler unterhalten. Salute, Prost und Sante!
Auf den ersten Blick scheint das Concertino Unisono eine klassische performative Intervention auf musikalischer Basis zu sein. Doch tatsächlich ist das Projekt wesentlich vielschichtiger. Man kann es als Zuschauer in der grandiosen Kulisse der Piazza San Marco erleben. Oder in Köln bei einem venezianischen Cocktail in einem public viewing zusammen mit Freunden, live über Satellit. Diese Idee des Teilens eines Kunsterlebnisses ist wesentlicher Bestandteil des künstlerischen Konzeptes. Durch die Technologie der Videokonferenz wird man vom passiven Teilnehmer zum aktiven Interakteur, wenn man mag.
Michael Staab, Kölner Konzeptkünstler, Theaterregisseur und freier Kurator war von 2007 bis 2012 Teil des Labor Teams. 2007 präsentierte er im Labor sein Projekt Die Biennale 2007 Köln.

Michael Staab - Concertino Unisono.
A performance art intervention in public space. Piazza San Marco, Venice.
A visit to the Piazza San Marco—"the finest salon in Europe," as French writer Alfred de Musset described it—is one of the highlights of any trip to Venice. Three renowned cafés are situated in the square: Caffe Florian (established in 1720), Gran Caffe Quadri (1775) opposite, and Caffe Lavena (1750) next door. Traditionally, each of these keeps a small orchestra to entertain clients on the terrace with music of all genres and periods. As a rule, the orchestras alternate their playing so as to avoid acoustic overlapping.
The project
A man dressed in tails appears in the middle of the square and starts conducting. Surprisingly, the orchestras follow his beat, and they all begin playing at once. The resultant musical chaos soon organises itself into an ensemble, and the square is filled with the strains of Johann Strauss's Blue Danube waltz.
The music of the three orchestras mingles with the babble of tourist voices, the cooing of the pigeons and the noises of the lagoon to form a Concertino Unisono, which is best experienced in the midst of the throng, in constant motion like the Danube itself, or swaying to the rhythm of the waltz. The unison of the orchestras will last only a few minutes before the buzz of the crowd reestablishes the rhythm.
A unique artistic event in a singular setting
A temporary artwork which appears and disappears, remaining not in a museum but only in the memory of those present. Even if the description of the project suggests a musical theme, this is merely secondary. Concertino Unisono regards itself as classical conceptual action art, an interdisciplinary performative intervention in public space. An existing situation is changed through the non-verbal actions of a single protagonist, altering public perception of reality.

Concertino Unisono is a site-specific project by German conceptual artist, theater director and independent curator Michael Staab. Since 1992, following several years of work in institutional and independent theaters, Staab has focused on performatively displayed room installations and conceptual art actions and projects. In his temporary site-and context-specific projects, Staab examines the ways in which social systems function, analyzing established views and behavioral patterns of people in familiar situations. His work is interdisciplinary and participatory. The goal of Staab's work is to create temporary "social sculptures" by promoting the acceptance of an expanded notion of art.

Concertino Unisono is part one of the Lab'Bel 3 Easy Pieces project.
The title of this project is a discreet homage to Stravinsky: 3 Easy Pieces is a piano duet that teaches children to play with four hands and was composed in 1915 just after The Rite of Spring shocked the music world. A series of simple and accessible projects in public spaces, mostly performances, that can be appreciated by everyone, specifically a large and anonymous public.
Lab'Bel, the Artistic Laboratory of the Bel Group, was formed in 2010 out of the latter's keen desire and policy to support contemporary art.
Lab'Bel is directed by Laurent Fiévet and Silvia Guerra.
